ISIOS Recalibration System with Laser Tracker

High-Precision Repeatable Recalibration with External Measurement Technology

The ISIOS laser tracker recalibration system combines the high measurement accuracy of a laser tracker with an automated ISIOS recalibration procedure.

Following initial system setup, the operator can regularly check robot accuracy and perform another calibration as required.

For recalibration, the robot moves to specially selected measurement poses.

From the target/actual deviations determined, the ISIOS system identifies the full set of model parameters again.

Automated Parameter Identification and Model Optimisation

The measurement data obtained can be used to check accuracy or for parameter identification. In addition to the basic kinematic parameters, further parameters relevant to accuracy can be considered. The data required for online compensation and highly accurate robot control is then generated.

This creates a repeatable process:

Measurement → target/actual comparison → parameter identification → model optimisation → updated compensation

Checking and Restoring Precision over the Long Term

The laser tracker recalibration system is particularly suitable for installations with very high accuracy requirements, where absolute accuracy is to be monitored throughout the robot’s entire period of use, rather than only at commissioning.

Additional components of a complex robot installation can also be included in the overall concept. ISIOS systems, for example, provide extensions for linear and spindle axes, as well as different end-effector masses.

The operator can thus carry out repeated high-precision recalibrations within their own installation and respond to changes in the robot without having to initiate a new calibration project for every accuracy check.

Please note: anyone who does not own an expensive laser tracker must rent one for every accuracy check and every recalibration! Together with the tracker rental for the initial calibration, calibration using a tracker then costs approximately as much as the entire Laser Sensor System, including measurement hardware.
